About Diamonds[Our Diamonds] [Color] [Clarity] [Carat] [Cut] [Clarity Enhancement] [Diamond Care]Clarity Enhancement:
A diamond is chemically formed from a natural grain. When spaces are formed within that grain it is what we call an imperfection. Chemists found a way to fill those cracks with material, improving the imperfections as well as the overall appearance of the diamond. This process is called "clarity enhancement". There are a few companies that bought the secret process, and are treating stones for the entire industry.
The process is reversible, meaning that the enhancement could be taken out of the stone by applying direct heat source to the stone. If such a direct heat source is applied to the stone - the treatment
could be done over without causing any damage to the stone. Also, the treatment is not always detectable by a X10 loupe.
To prevent this from happening, when a jeweler is applying fire to the stone in order to thicken the prongs, or for whatever other reason, such as resizing the ring, the jeweler should take the diamond
out of its setting first, BEFORE applying the fire to it. Yet, if he failed to do so, and caused the treatment to reverse itself - the stone would be re-enhanced without any charges to you. (The diamond manufacturers rarely do this process, therefore we have full control & knowledge as whether the diamond is or is not enhanced.)
